Glitch In The System

Well Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither is a good website! It appears that the comments feature has not been working correctly since day one. Given time constraints and my minimal knowledge in html coding, I've decided to place a link to my e-mail address (oneraddad@live.com) just below my profile in the left hand column. Please feel free to send your questions and comments there, and I'll reply to them as soon as I can. I hope to hear from you soon and believe this will alleviate some of the commenting frustrations. I pretty much have everything laid out the way I want it but am always open to suggestions!

Now that we have that cleared up, let's get on to the updates! Things are moving rather quickly around here. Time seems to be against me more and more as the days pass. Constantly wanting to get things done but never having enough time to do them. Such is life. It doesn't help that my brain finds the best way to deal with things is to take on every perceivable project I can all at once. I'm rearranging the office/spare bedroom to accommodate a dresser from our bedroom, along with a few things from the dining room. A desk will find it's way from our room to the dining room, in order to give our room enough space to add all the baby essentials, crib, change table, etc. On top of that my brain figures I should be working out more so I can be in tip top shape when the baby rolls in. My muscles ache. On top of that, for some reason or another, I find it important that I start writing an album. More or less a last ditch effort at anything artistic before I'm surrounded by all things cute. Things in that area are running rather smoothly, I love computers! All in all, I'm keeping myself busy, whether I like it or not!

Momma has been doing well. She's getting plenty of rest, and eating well. The expected aches and pains are starting to be a little more apparent now, which is no surprise, Blueberry is the size of an orange now! She has some blood tests coming up, and a doctor's appointment right around the corner. Soon after that is the visit for the ultrasound, which I personally think can't get here soon enough! We've been discussing some names as well. Although nothing is set in stone at this point, we pretty much have our hearts set on these two; for a boy, Lucas Ryker, and a girl, Phoenix Aurora. I have been tossing around a few other names like Damian Skyy, or Zoe Sidone, these seem to make Momma ponder and grow uncertain, but we have plenty of time to come up with something great. If I can manage to come up with the time!

Heartbeats & Halos

Second Trimester Baby!

I've never been one to appreciate the finer points of scientific endeavours. I've always been quite content on using big words to sound smart. However, I find science extremely intriguing when I learn something insightful and new or, am baffled beyond belief at how beautifully complex science truly is. In this case it's all of the above, decent!

It was a dreary afternoon for the most part. A false sense of Spring in the air that was nothing more than mild weather, slushy roads and walkways, and just enough rainfall to be considered annoying. The bus ride was rather rocky, and with the road conditions felt more like an old Pinecraft darting down the Assiniboine on a windy day in September. I got off at the wrong stop, but caught up with Momma at the next transfer, which undoubtedly, was equally as nautical as the first. Shortly afterwards we arrived.

You need to take your shoes off in the waiting room, which reminds me of Kindergarten. Hard pressed carpet, random toys strewn about, and the familiar scent of cleaning agents, and juice. I like this place, feels good, I want to play with the toys. By all means I should play with the toys, the wait is always lengthy. Half hour, forty-five tops, but nothing to do but stare at the toys, until you're shuttled off down the hall. The Doctors visit is pretty much the same as usual, questions answers, everything seems normal, lets check how the baby is doing. The usual paperwork, business as expected, staring at the floor listening, taking mental notes, listening to what the... wait... that wasn't...

There it was...

A small, steady, thumping...

Then it was lost amongst the clicks and pops as the Doppler machine was turned on and the familiar sounds of medical conversation returned. Soon after it was back outside in the dank miserable weather, waiting in a half flooded bus shack for the next 14 to arrive. When it finally did, out of the corner of my eye, I swear I caught a glimpse of blue amongst a sea of grey. With a smirk I thought, "Yeah, yeah... I'm paying attention..." Then boarded my schooner and sailed off into the distance.

101.5 days - A Scientific Assessment

14 1/2 Weeks - Second Trimester

Your baby's crown to rump length is 3.2 to 4.5 inches long and he weighs approximately 1 ounce now. Your baby is about the size of the average fist.

Your uterus is beginning to swell week by week and you can follow its progress by locating the top of the uterus. The position of the top of the uterus will continue to gradually move up your abdomen, from beneath the pubic line to above your navel. You might also experience hemorrhoids, which are painful dilated blood vessels around or inside the anus.

At this time, your baby's face is becoming more developed. The cheeks and bridge of his nose appear and the ears move from the sides of his neck to much higher on his head. The eyes continue to come closer together. A big development from this week onward is the development of lanugo. Lanugo is the fine hair that grows over almost your entire baby. The hairs grow in whirled patterns that follow the grain of his skin. These patterns later give way to your baby's fingerprints. The lanugo will be shed before birth and replaced by thicker, coarser hairs.

Your baby's thyroid gland has matured and starts to produce hormones. If your baby is a boy, the prostate will appear and the ovaries descend from the abdomen into the pelvis in baby girls. The embryo`s soft cartilage is now being replaced with ` real` chalk bones. Your baby has eyebrows, but no eyelashes. Fine, light hair also begins to grow.

What's In A Name

blue·ber·ry

n. In both senses also called bilberry.

1. Any of numerous plants of the genus Vaccinium, having white to reddish, urn-shaped or tubular flowers and edible blue to blue-black berries.
2. The fruit of any of these plants.
3. The size of a human embryo at 7 weeks gestation
4. The nickname for our little bundle of joy!

When I first found out I was going to be a dad I was shocked! Things all around me suddenly changed in an instant, like a deer in the headlights staring blankly at this mesmerizing light, too shocked to get out of the way, and wham left skidding across the highway wondering what the hell just happened! It was like that scene in a movie where they zoom in on the main character as the camera moves father away giving the illusion of the entire world imploding around them. That was me. Dumb look on my face, and slight smirk of accomplishment, all none the wiser to the path that lay ahead. It was right around the seven week mark. Mommy thrilled that I'm on board eagerly learning every possible thing she can to help ease my confusion. Like a giant informational sponge, soaking it all in.

It was at the dinner table around lunch when we were discussing how far along she was, what the baby was like at that moment, how big it was, what was being developed, how long it would be before we knew it's sex. Then it dawned on us, Blueberry, it was the size of a Blueberry, so why not call it Blueberry! I agreed that calling it Blueberry until we knew for certain it's sex would be a much better option than calling it... well "it", and eased my mind a little knowing a gender neutral nickname wouldn't result in some deep down identity crisis issues somewhere down the road. Yeah, I know, I'm neurotic, but I'm gonna be a first time Dad, I'm bound to have a few screws loose by now! Blueberry doesn't mind!

Thank You

Welcome to my little place dedicated entirely to my little blueberry! I'm hoping to keep this site as updated as time will possibly allow, and hope you enjoy partaking in this wondrous journey as much as we are!

There is a lot of things that I want to get on here, and I'm starting to publish things a lot sooner than expected, (I usually have a lot more planned out before I take on such a project), but I'm sure things will come together just fine. For privacy sake we ask that you refrain from using our real names in any posts you may leave, but by all means feel free to leave comments, suggestions, and ask any questions you may have, keeping in mind I will answer most of the common questions in my regular posts!

Most of my posts will be from "One Rad Dad" but if "One Hot Momma" has anything special to add I will include these as well. I'm hoping to keep this site as user friendly to everyone as I possibly can, (I know some of us are a lot better with computers than others), and hope everyone can have a positive experience here! If you need to get a hold of us for any reason we can be reached at oneraddad@live.com I'll try to keep up with the e-mails as often as I can! So, until next time thank you once again from the bottom of our hearts, it's going to be one wild ride, I hope to see you there!
